The Nordic Welfare Centre will lead a Nordic cooperation project aimed at increasing knowledge about interventions for children growing up in families with persistently low income in the Nordic region. The purpose is to collect and compile experiences and knowledge from the Nordic countries in this field in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cooperation will result in a report describing good practice examples and policy approaches to promote increased social mobility and participation among children and young people growing up in families with persistently low income. The project focuses on effective measures that support family circumstances and enhance children’s opportunities.

In addition, the report will focus on knowledge drawn from the experiences of children and young people who have grown up in families with persistently low income. The aim is to ensure that their voices are heard and to increase understanding of the importance of safeguarding children’s own opportunities.

The project is supported by a Nordic steering group, and a network of Nordic researchers will be invited to contribute to the Nordic cooperation. The researcher network and the steering group will support the Nordic Welfare Centre in selecting sources that describe children’s and young people’s own experiences and perceptions of growing up in a family with persistently low income. The Nordic Welfare Centre will also involve Nordregio in developing maps and indicators on child poverty and the risk of social exclusion in the Nordic region.
