This webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn about and reflect on ways forward in work to guarantee fundamental rights and freedoms for the people living in the Nordics – a life free from negative social control, violence and oppression, and the right to decide over one’s body and sexuality.

At the webinar we will present key results from a new study that reviews the policies and legislations in the Nordic countries. We will explore the transition from policy to practice and highlight successful work across the Nordic countries. The webinar is organised by Nordic information on gender (NIKK) and the Nordic Welfare Centre (NWC).

The webinar welcomes experts working in ministries responsible for addressing honour-based violence and oppression, as well as other national actors engaged in this work.

Honour-based violence and oppression in the Nordics | NVC
Honour-based violence and oppression constitute a violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms. This violence is based on patriarchal and heteronormative ideas and undermines both gender equality and the rights of LGBTI people. The purpose of this publication is to provide an overview of the work being done to combat honour-based violence and oppression in the Nordic region. The publication describes the strategic work being done in this area, focusing on how honour-based violence and oppression are defined, the problems and challenges that have been identified, and how the work to address these is organised. Furthermore, the publication contains an overview and analysis of national policy documents and other relevant material dealing with the vulnerability of LGBTI persons to violence, as well as a review and analysis of national criminal law legislation related to honour-related violence and oppression.
